State Award for Council Program

The South East Regional Energy Group's (SEREG) innovative Swich your thinking! program won a WA Environment Award on Saturday night.

Winners were announced at a special gala dinner held at the Hyatt Regency Perth, with SEREG winning an award in the Resource and Waste Management category.

The Group, comprising the Cities of Armadale and Gosnells and Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, is committed to partnering with residents, businesses and industry across the region to help facilitate a reduction in regional greenhouse gas emissions.

Delivered under a consistent and recognisable brand, Switch your thinking! projects aim to promote energy and resource efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction across the region.

Recent community projects include the Switched on Business & Industry, Green Light Schools Fundraiser and Rebates 4 Residents.

SEREG Chair Cr Pat Hart accepted the Award on behalf of the three member councils.

"I am thrilled to accept this award on behalf of the Cities of Armadale and Gosnells and Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire", Cr Hart said.

"SEREG Councils are very proud of the Switch your thinking! program and are committed to continuing to work with our communities to help save money and combat climate change."

One of the key features of the Switch your thinking! program has been the formation of successful partnerships with State and Federal government agencies, funding bodies and corporate sponsors including Synergy, Solahart, the Water Corporation, Examiner Newspapers, Greenday Today and Stockland being singled out for their long-term support.

Since the program's inception eight years ago, SEREG and its project partners have helped reduce greenhouse emissions by more than 330,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
