Switch your thinking! - Rebates for Residents 2012
Participants in the award winning Switch your thinking! program are not only saving money but helping to reduce energy use, water consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions.
All you need to do is download the flyer, contact your local supplier and mention the "Switch your thinking! Rebates for Residents Program".
Residents and businesses in participating councils are eligible for rebates on a wide variety of products including Solar Panels, Energy Meters, Rainwater Tanks, Pool Covers and Insulation Paint. The Rebates for Residents project comes at an ideal time for local residents and businesses given the recent increases to the cost of electricity, gas and water. What's more, these rebates are in addition to any state or federal government rebates that residents may also be eligible for.*
Download the Rebates for Residents Flyer which gives you all the details of the various offers from our sponsors.

Why can I only receive the rebate for certain companies?
The R4R scheme is essentially a series of discounts that is offered to residents and staff of Switch your thinking! (Syt!) Councils by Syt! sponsors. The Syt! team negotiates special discounts for the community and communicates these discounts or rebates through our displays, flyers, newspaper advertisements and website.R4R discounts are only available on products purchased through companies that sponsor the Syt! program, as it is the sponsors who funds the discount. Council does not provide funding to sponsors to participate in the program, in fact, Syt! sponsors give financial support to the Syt! program to help develop and deliver a wide range of community environmental projects which are delivered to the community through the Syt! program. All companies have the opportunity to become a Syt! sponsor and support local greenhouse action, however only companies who sell environmental / sustainable products or services can be involved in the R4R scheme.
What money does Council put toward the rebate scheme?
Council does not provide funding to sponsors to participate in the project, the rebate / discount comes directly from the company selling the product. Syt! sponsors support the Syt! program financially, which helps Council develop and deliver community environmental projects which are delivered at no cost through the Syt! Program.
Individual Syt! Councils are responsible for communicating the R4R scheme to their residents; this can be done through a variety of means, including print advertising in local papers and flyer drops, the cost of which is borne by the local Syt! Council, or sometimes shared between neighbouring Syt! Councils. Some print advertising is also provided pro bone as part of sponsorship arrangements brokered with local newspapers.
What does Switch your thinking! use sponsorship money for?
Funding provided by corporate sponsorship is used to develop community environmental initiatives such as Free workshops on PV Solar Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Gardening Workshops, Environmental audits for small businesses, Displays, Web resources on sustainable living, and School projects. These projects are delivered to the communities of Councils participating in the Syt! program at no cost to participants.
Can I receive the rebate retrospectively?
The R4R scheme works as a "point of sale" discount and therefore is not retrospective. A "point of sale" discount streamlines the administrative process and allows us to minimise administration costs and to deliver the scheme's benefit (e.g. the financial discount) to residents immediately. A "point of sale" format also allows our sponsors to manage supply costs more effectively and to monitor the benefit that participating in the scheme delivers to them.
Can my builder access the R4R scheme on my behalf?
The R4R program is intended for residential and commercial sales only and cannot be applied to trade purchases. Trade purchases are generally negotiated privately and include bulk purchase prices. Most builders will be able negotiate prices below that of those offered through the R4R scheme.
I own or run a business, how can my business be involved in the R4R scheme?
To enquire about becoming a Syt! sponsor contact Julie McMinn Syt! Program Coordinator on 0432 370 671 or download our sponsorship proposal.
What it I find a cheaper quote?
It is always a good idea to do due diligence and shop around for at least 3 quotes. If you can find an equivalent product (e.g. same price, product warranty, workmanship warranty etc) that you feel is better value or better suited to your needs than the products promoted through the R4R scheme, please feel free to purchase it! You will be creating positive environmental change through your purchase.
If you find a quality, comparable environmental product or service that is provided by a company who is not currently a Syt! Sponsor, why not give them our contact details and encourage them to become future Syt! sponsor.
Who can I contact to discuss the R4R scheme further?
Trena Ward Syt! Program Officer can be contacted on 0428 917 898, at TWard@gosnells.wa.gov.au or through the website to discuss the R4R scheme or any other Syt! initiative.
