Ecovision Wanneroo Display Homes Now Open

The wait is finally over for avid followers of all things sustainable, affordable, innovative and efficient when it comes to housing design with the building of two EcoVision demonstration homes in Tapping.

The EcoVision Wanneroo Demonstration project, a joint venture between WA developer Cedar Woods and the City of Wanneroo, included the design and building of two sustainable homes in The Kestrels Private Estate. The homes, which are 3x2 and 2x1 respectively, are the first demonstration homes of this type designed and built in Perth’s northern suburbs.

Both homes have an 8-star energy rating and have been strongly based around the relationship of interior and exterior spaces, also known as ‘outdoor rooms’. One house design illustrates solutions to a north/south axis block while the other house has been designed along an east/west axis.

Additional features include:

·          Photovoltaic cells for alternative power supply

·          Rainwater tanks supplying water to the toilets and washing machines

·          Grey water systems for the garden

·          Heat pump and gas boosted solar hot water systems

·          Water efficient tapware, showerheads and appliances

·          Controlled  lighting

·          Landscaped gardens with drought tolerant plants, porous paving and carefully selected areas of turf, and

·          A display monitor showing how much energy and water is being used in the homes.

The EcoVision Wanneroo homes will be open free to the public every Saturday in 2012 until further notice from 2 - 4pm. The homes are located at 5 Ardea Way, within the Kestrels Estate, Tapping (Parking on Ninnox Lane) Appointments at other times can be made with Carolyn Baldwin 9405 5479 or 0417 162 972.
